Young Adult Fellowship Graduation presents a tremendous challenge for youth ministries. Helping students to continue to grow in faith after high school is easier said than done. This is a challenge, especially on the reservation, where the loss of routine once provided by school often gives way to alcoholism, teen pregnancy, and many other social ills that haunt our communities. In an effort to address the needs of post-high school students, Mending Wings provides a Young Adult Fellowship (YAF)—a place where students can come to have fun, eat, have a sense of belonging, and to experience the love and power of Creator. It is so much more than singing songs and studying the Bible. It is a great place to experience the life and power of Yeshua, and to see him meet students where they are at. Elijah James, a student that attends YAF, puts it this way: “This is like CSI of the Bible! It’s really scaring me because after studying the Bible I can’t stop thinking about it.” YAF is a place where students come together in the name of Yeshua, and place their hope in the reality he spoke of in Luke 4: “The Spirit of Creator is on me, because he has chosen me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom to those who are shackled, and recovery of sight to those who are blind, to release those who have been oppressed, and to proclaim that He loves and forgives us all.” |
