Our Passion For 500 years Native American mission endeavors hav tried hard to find ways to share the Good News with our Native people, but the result, more times than not, has been the same—a very minimal number of Native people’s profess Christ as their savior. Not a very good return on 500 years worth of effort! We believe the reason many of our Native people are being “lost for Christ” is because our identities, cultures, family values, traditions, ceremonies, beliefs, spirituality, and languages have been rejected by the ones ministering to our people. Not to mention the exclusion of Native Christians from key leadership roles within the mainstream of Christianity. However, we at Mending Wings strive to bring a message of healing and restoration to Native American youth and families on the Yakama Reservation, the Pacific Northwest, and across the country, through the building up of the body of Christ among Native people, by cultivating indigenous expressions of Biblical worship, by helping Native youth to recognize themselves, and their cultural expression of worship, as vital parts of the body of Christ, by helping Native youth and families experience Creator’s healing from past wounds so they can become healers in their communities, and by encouraging Native families and communities to walk in dignity and honor for the glory of Creator. |
